Are you wondering how to refill pods? Or want to fill the new starter kit’s pod without damaging the coil?
Refilling a vape pod sounds easy. But without the right steps, your device may start leaking, or you may end up with a dry hit. Don’t worry. In this guide, we’ll explain all the steps to refilling a replacement pod the right way.
Let’s start with the basics.
What Is a Refillable Vape Pod?
Refillable vape pods contain the vape juice, and it's where the e-liquid gets heated. It has a coil inside (either built-in or replaceable) and has a filling port for adding your e-liquid. They connect to your vaping devices directly. The best part of refillable pods is that you don’t have to throw them out when the liquid runs over. Simply refill them with fresh e-liquid to keep enjoying your vaping sessions. Some of the refillable cartridges come with replaceable coils. When the coil burns out, change it with a new one.

What You’ll Need Before You Start
Here is the list of items you need for refilling pods:
- A bottle of e-liquid
- A tissue or paper towel (in case of spills)
- A refillable pod that’s compatible with your device
How to Refill Vape Without Leaking?
If you’re using a pod with a built-in coil, check if it’s still in good condition. If the liquid has turned dark, it tastes burnt, or the pod leaks constantly, it might be time to replace the pod or replaceable coil. Once ready, follow these steps:
Step 1: Remove the Pod
Start by pulling the pod out of your device. Place the pod on a tissue or dry surface. This prevents any small leaks or condensation from getting on your hands or table.
Step 2: Find the Fill Port
Look for a small rubber plug or silicone stopper on the side or bottom of the pod. It usually has a small tab or flap you can lift with your fingernail. On some newer pods, the fill port might be at the top, under a removable mouthpiece. Always check your device’s manual or website if you’re unsure.
Step 3: Open the Fill Port
Using your nail or fingertip, lift the rubber or silicone plug to open the port. Hold the pod at a slight angle to make room for the liquid and to avoid air pockets. Avoid pulling too hard or twisting the plug. You don’t want it to tear or come loose completely.
Step 4: Fill with E-liquid
Place the tip of your bottle into the hole and fill the pod without squeezing too hard.
Follow these tips:
- Don’t overfill. Leave a little space at the top to prevent leaking.
- Go slow. Rushing can cause spills or overflow.
- Use the right e-liquid. Most pod systems work best with 50/50 VG/PG blends or nic salts. Thicker liquids (like 70/30) may not wick properly.
You can find VG/PG ratios printed on the e-liquid bottle. For more help, check out our guide to vape juice.
Step 5: Close the Fill Port Tightly
Once the pod is filled, press the rubber plug back into place firmly. Make sure it’s completely sealed with no gaps. A loose plug is one of the most common reasons pods leak. Give the pod a quick wipe with a tissue to remove any leftover drops.
Step 6: Let the Pod Sit (If It’s a New Coil)
Let the pod rest for about 5 to 10 minutes after filling, especially if the coil is new. This allows the cotton inside to soak up the liquid properly, which helps prevent dry hits or a burnt taste.
Step 7: Reinsert the Pod into the Device
Once the pod is filled and rested, pop it back into your vape. You might hear a click or feel it snap into place. Now you're ready to vape. Start with a few gentle puffs before going full draw. This helps the coil break in gradually and improves its overall lifespan.
How Often Should You Refill a Pod?
How often you need to refill depends on:
- Pod capacity (usually 2ml in the UK due to TPD regulations)
- How much do you vape
- Type of e-liquid
- Coil resistance and power settings
For example, a 2ml pod on a 1.0-ohm coil might last a full day for a light user. But someone using a 0.6-ohm coil with more frequent puffs might refill two or three times a day.
Pay attention to the liquid level. Running a pod dry can burn the coil, even with just a few puffs.
Can You Mix E-Liquids in the Same Pod?
Technically, yes, but it depends. Mixing flavours or brands can work fine, but only if the new liquid blends well with the previous one.
Problems might happen if you go from a strong tobacco flavour to a sweet fruit without cleaning the pod. Some flavours linger longer and can affect the next one.
If you’re switching to a very different flavour, it’s a good idea to either clean the pod or replace it.
